This is West Street as we walked from St. Mary's Church back to the Mermaid Inn. (The church would be behind you.) At the end of the street is Lamb House. To the left is a walled garden where there was once a garden house in which both Henry James and E. F. Benson wrote many of their novels. The fate of the garden house is revealed by the plaque you see below. Lamb House is run by the National Trust. Even though the house and garden was closed on the Sunday we found it, Lynn was thrilled to be standing inside all those books she knew so well. From that moment on, she was immersed in England.
You can just barely see this plaque in the picture above, on the wall to the left at the end of the street, almost at the corner of Lamb House.
