On Raphael's Vision of a Knight

Do not forsake me, thou poetic Muse.
R eveal, through my most tangled words wound round
E ssential tethered Truth, the lesson found
A mid this peaceful painting we peruse.
M inerva's choice is offered to confuse,
I nvoking virtue by which knights are bound;
N earby, fair Aphrodite's love unbound
G ives goodly cause for gentle knights to choose.

Raphael's Vision of a Knight

K eep virtue close, but know what lies in wait:
N o man avoids this hero's test in life.
I nvoke the names of olden gods to aid;
G o gently forth, and meet what e'er your fate
H ath planned, for modern times of love and strife
T est all by which forgotten knights were made.

This is also an acrostic: the first letter of each line, when read vertically down the page, forms a message.
